So, I went on the blind date with the guy from work. Instead of going with other people who work here, we just grabbed lunch. I thought this would save the awkwardness that happens when you meet someone for the first time. I STILL FELT AWKWARD. BIG TIME.
First, about two days before the lunch date (if that's what you want to call it), one of the guys that works in my office came and started bugging me about it. Apparently everyone in the guy's unit heard about our planned meeting, and started giving him a hard time about it. Poor guy, but you get what you deserve if you spread your business around. Especially here.
On THE day, he picked me up from work, we went and grabbed lunch, and he brought me back. No big deal, no major mishaps. But during our conversation, which was more a life-in-review, he tells me about all the times he has gone back to his ex-wife. I don't have a problem with dating someone who has been married already. Hell, I was almost that girl. But then he mentions, ever so casually, that they are still married. Uh, what?! He proceeds to discount that by saying it's only common-law, blah, blah, blah. HELLO!! Does anyone else see the problem with this? You are still married, like it or not, and I DO NOT date married men. LATER!
So the girl I work with emails me after lunch to see how it went. I'm honest and tell her it went fine, until he got to the whole still being married thing. She seemed to feel the same way I did, not that I really care.
Needless to say, I don't think I will be dating him again any time soon, if ever. Nice guy, but a little too much for me, especially right now.

New/Old Friend
As I mentioned before, I have a friend that the parentals aren't too excited about. BUt he is really nice and really not looking for anything more than a friendship, which is perfect for me, because I am sooo not ready.
Well, the friend called a few weeks ago and pretty much said he didn't think I was ready for any type of new relationship, friend or otherwise. Um, O.K. So, we aren't even dating, but you are dumping me anyway? Yeah, whatever. See ya.
So, no sleep lost over that one. I kept perking along, although he did creep into my mind here and there, just because we got along so well and had such a great time together. I even contemplated texting him over the past weekend. But, my rational side persevered and I was strong. (If only I had that strength when it came to High School Sweetie. Different story, different post.)
Then, out of nowhere, I get a text message from my friend/not friend. And he has been thinking about me ever since he said he couldn't play with me. Um, that's interesting. So, maybe you do want to be my friend. And the rest is history. We are back to our usual texting/talking/whatever. He is just so relaxed and a ton of fun. Perfect!

Blind Dates
Well, I've been single for a couple of months now, and I don't really know if I am ready to be back in the dating game just yet.
A girl that works at the same place I do called earlier this week and asked if I wanted to join her and her husband, as well as some of their friends for dinner this weekend. Then she throws in that she has this friend, who works with her husband, that is also single and looking to meet people to hang out with. So, I'm thinking that's cool. A group of people to hang out with and maybe have some fun.
Then I remember I have already talked about going to Houston this weekend to help out my aunt. So I end up having to decline the dinner invitation. But, I did leave things open for a next time. And the guy said he would keep in touch.
Well, the guy just texted, so maybe we will meet in the future...

Decade in Review
Well, I know we are well into the new decade, but I thought maybe I should recap the previous one with some milestones that I accomplished or survived.
2000 - Graduated from high school, started junior college
2001 - Worked and went to school
2002 - Graduated from junior college
2003 - Moved to College Station to attend the best school in the world (IMHO)
2004 - Attended school full time and worked
2005 - Supposed to graduate, decide to drag it out a little longer, published a journal article
2006 - Met the love of my life, graduated from Texas A&M (WHOOP!)

2007 - Lost the love of my life suddenly, moved home, started my big girl job
2008 - Got engaged
2009 - Planned a wedding, almost got married
I am sure there are lots of other things I could include for each year. It's funny how things that seemed so important at the time really don't mean much when you look back at a decade.
Did anyone else have a memorable decade, or one that they were happy to survive?

A Bumpy Road
Life has been pretty tough lately. Things at the casa are tense, to say the least.
I thought I had decided to move into the duplex, and I thought the parents were supportive. Then I actually opened my mouth and said I was moving, and the parents have since changed their minds. WHAT?! Why did they even act like they would support that decision in the first place? So, now I guess I am going to be renting a storage unit and living at home.
Then, the parents have decided that the new friend can't just want to be friends. There must be more to it, blah, blah, blah. Why can't people just be friends and like to hang out with each other? I guess I missed the part where that became IMPOSSIBLE. But if you don't want me spending time with him, quit asking what kind of plans I have every day. Obviously I have NONE!
